My global perspective was a trait I didn't acquire in my early years . Becoming a member of FIU global gave me insight and experience on what it feels like to be a team player. They encouraged me to strengthen my discipline and desire to learn while adapting from others. To be honest, at first I began my global voyage for the living arrangement benefits but it quickly became a personal interest and passion. Being a mentor of the Global Living Learning Community expanded my outlook on school and life overall. It taught me the interdependence of the social, economic, and political links between everyday citizens and the impact it has on certain issues worldwide. Relating to my situation at FIU, my students counted on me to be their voice and leader. That in return helped me find my diverse identity and passion to be open to other cultures.
Global Awareness is similar to basic humanity and the will to stay connected and educated. Most of us do not care about worldwide issues because we are so occupied with situations in our own lives. However, lets think of the social justice, human rights, and its impact of inequality and discrimination. Touching on the importance of taking a stand for our own rights and others issues is a vast responsibility and debt to keep everything afloat. This responsibility made me face that not doing anything also plays a role in the issue. Even if there is no solution, there is always something that can be done no matter how small or big. All efforts create change. The factors of peace building and conflict resolution help maintain a positive and trusting relationship from country to country which decreases conflict and in the future, can prevent catastrophic situations.
As far as global engagement my upbringing gave me the desire to give back, get involved, and speak out. Every individual on this earth has a purpose , so it is not how much you do, but more so what you do. Being apart of FIU WRC, SPC, GLLC, and KKI showed me more resources and different opportunities just from networking and leaving my comfort zone. I realized that there are no limits in this world and many ways to give service outside my country, like by going to school internationally, and many other methods of outlet. Personally, volunteering tapped into my hidden talents that changed my view on my self worth and ability. Working with local non-profit agencies, volunteers and learning about the functions and operations of our government allowed me to create relationships to access knowledge of local and international resources available to solve my community needs one nice gesture at a time.
After graduation I plan to open up my own chain of gyms, promoting people worldwide to lead a healthier life mentally and physically. I will work hard to teach and keep people encouraged to stay fit and live a long well lived life. Also, I am currently in the process of earning my Performance Enhancement Specialist and Certified Personal Trainer degrees from the National Sports Academy Of Medicine in order to better assist my clients to reach their life goals one day at a time.
