I am known on the FIU campus as the high scoring center of the FIU Women’s Rugby team and as a two-time (2015 and 2016) member of the Collegiate All-American USA Women’s Rugby team. But my experiences in living/working in the Global Living Learning Community (GLLC) residence hall taught me to act on skills that have been most transformative in my personal and business life. I lived in the GLLC in 2014-15, and was a mentor for the GLLC the following year. Later, I decided to be a mentor because my passion to help others took full advantage of global learning at FIU and helped me realize their capacity as change makers. In 2016, Eric Feldman reached out to me about a special project which led me to a bike drive at FIU for newly arrived refugees, teaming up with the on-campus bicycle shop to solicit donations of bikes. This leadership role combined my interest in global learning and many personal experiences navigating South Florida without a car. I promoted the drive to the FIU community and held multiple fund-raising events. The end result included donations of several bikes, funds, and the continuation of the bike drive as the FIU Bike for Refugees program, which continues today as a collaboration between the Office of Global Learning and Student Affairs.
